Hiccups, there is a saying among the common people: “Children hiccup when they grow up, and old people hiccup when they grow up!” It means that hiccups are normal for children. If you observe carefully, especially children who are only a few months old, you will often see them hiccuping, and when they hiccup, their whole body will move, but it’s okay, they grow up day by day.

So it is normal for children to hiccup when they grow up. As they grow up, they will not hiccup. We need to observe carefully, so why do we say that old people are ill? Hiccups are caused by poor qi movement. People with poor qi movement are prone to illness. Some people hiccup after meals, some people hiccup when drinking water, and some people hiccup even when they don’t eat, etc.

If you hiccup occasionally, you don’t have to care, but hiccups are uncomfortable, what should I do? Let me first tell you a case from my childhood.

When I was young, I was always playful and ran around. I didn’t watch TV or use mobile phones like today’s kids. We didn’t have these things back then, so I ran around. When I ran, I would use my breath, and if I couldn’t breathe smoothly, I would have hiccups. My brother was a few years older than me, and he taught me, “When you have hiccups, hold your pulse with one hand and hold your breath. When you can’t hold your breath anymore, exhale, and the hiccups will stop!”

It’s true that this method really works. The hiccups stopped immediately, which is more effective than drinking a lot of water after hiccups. But I just didn’t understand why I had to hold my pulse? As I grew up, I found that if I didn’t hold my pulse, I could just hold my breath directly, and it would still work. Why do I have to press it? I looked for the answer to this question.

Later, I studied Chinese medicine, and when I learned about Neiguan acupoint, I understood it! It turns out that pressing the Neiguan acupoint can stop hiccups. If you add holding your breath, it is a two-pronged approach, which will get better faster. However, rural people do not understand and think that it is pressing the pulse, but it is actually pressing the Neiguan acupoint (the location of the Neiguan acupoint is easy to find, you can check it yourself if you are interested)

Then why can’t some people stop hiccups by holding their breath? In fact, it is because you don’t hold your breath long enough. You hold your breath while watching the time. Why do you watch the time? You have to hold your breath for one minute. Watching the time go by, you will know the time. At the beginning, hold your breath and ignore the hiccups. After holding your breath for about 30 seconds, you seem to be unable to hold it anymore.
Then take a deep breath, and then continue to hold your breath without exhaling. Keep doing this for about 50 seconds, and then breathe slowly, and you will find that the hiccups are gone. If it doesn’t work once, you can hold your breath again later. This All methods are effective.

Of course, this is only for occasional hiccups. If you hiccup every day, you can’t do this. You need to regulate the Qi. In fact, the method is very simple. Go to the pharmacy to buy some tangerine peel (cheap ones are fine), and then buy some ginger. Use two slices of ginger each time, add a little tangerine peel to soak in water, and drink it until it has no taste. Continue to soak it tomorrow, soak it once a day, and drink it for a few days. This is very good for hiccups after meals.

Tangerine peel can regulate Qi (regulating Qi means to straighten the Qi), and ginger can warm the stomach and help it flow. When the stomach Qi is reduced and the Qi is not reversed, where does the hiccups come from?
